Jon Melby Air Shows

Jon Melby is another pilot who grew up with airplanes, but he claims he started flying before that by jumping off his roof into piles of leaves. He had one of the best possible introductions to real aviation when he met the legendary Bob Hoover at a local air show. AS were many, Jon was motivated by Bob’s love of flying and great sincerity.

Jon soloed in a glider before he was sixteen and bought an airplane when he was 19. He moved up from the world of Cessnas to a Pitts S2B in 1996 and began a career as an aerobatic pilot, placing or winning in competitions from his very first.

Jon tries to pay it forward by encourage anyone with the desire to become a pilot. He lives by the motto that “Bold actions bring strong results!”

Jon now flies the single seat Pitts S-1-11B, one of only two flying today. This lightweight, high-powered aerobatic airplane is perfect for Jon’s high performance freestyle show. Jon travels from his home in Chandler, AZ to shows all over the country.
